The Horses at the DD Ranch

Coyote, 15 years old

Hello, my name is Coyote (the “e” is silent), and I was born in 2005 on a ranch in Montana. In my younger years, I was a barrel horse. When I was older, I retired and enjoyed running in the pasture with the cows and other horses on the ranch. But then, one day in September 2019, my new mom came and picked me up from the ranch and took me to Colorado. Now I get to help teach young children and adults to ride and care for horses. I love my new job and my new home at the DD Ranch, especially since some of my friends traveled with me.

Coyote went to greener pastures on July 18, 2022, due to complications from a bone spur. He is greatly missed!

Hello, my name is Sabrina, and I am unique because I'm the only one at the DD Ranch that did not come from Montana! I was born and raised at a performance horse farm in Elizabeth, Colorado, and showed in the APHA circuit. One day Joan and her friend came to look at newborn babies, and I was in one of the stalls. Joan fell in love at first sight, and she came and picked me up a couple of days later. Now I get to teach young children and adults to ride and how to care for horses. I love all my human friends, and I try to teach them that it’s a lot of work riding and caring for horses, so they learn responsibility and patience. I love life at the DD Ranch!!!

Deuce, 17 years old

Hello, my name is Deuce. Fun fact, Jackpot was my half brother (read more about him below), and the two of us, plus Coyote, and Cowgirl grew up on the same ranch in Montana! I was a ranch horse that everyone loved to take on trail rides, work cattle, and give me love. When Joan and Mark came to the ranch, they rode me and fell in love. Then I traveled to Colorado to live at DD Ranch with my new parents Mark and Joan, plus my Montana ranch horse friends. I have so much fun helping kids and adults learn to ride and care for horses. I love my new job and my new home.

Jackpot, 8 years old

Hello, my name is Jackpot, and I was born in 2012 at a ranch in Montana (you might have read about my half-brother and friends). I never left that ranch until I traveled across several states to my new home at the DD Ranch in Franktown, Colorado. My job is fulfilling, especially when I get to help young children and adults learn to ride. My favorite part of my job is when I get rewarded with treats.

Jackpot went to greener pastures on August 4, 2022, due to complications from colic. His body was donated to the CSU vet school for necropsy, where it was discovered that the twist in his intestines was so severe he would not have survived surgery. He is greatly missed!

Cowgirl, 7 years old

Hello, my name is Cowgirl, and I was born in 2015 and raised at the same ranch in Montana as Jackpot, Deuce, and Coyote! I was the only girl (until Sabrina came along), that's why Joan refers to me as her baby. If you are lucky, she will let you ride me, but she is very protective because I’m her show horse. I’ve been in training since I arrived at the DD Ranch last fall. I love being loved on and given baths and especially getting my hair braided.
